I’m a great white shark.

I’m one of the biggest fish on earth!

Where do you live?

Great white sharks live in the ocean.

We like to swim in cool water.

Are you dangerous?

We can be very dangerous.

But we don’t usually attack people.

Instead people often hunt us!

What do you eat?

We eat lots of fish.

We also eat sea lions, dolphins, and turtles.

So you have to hunt for food?

Yes, we’re amazing hunters.

We can smell our prey from far away.

Your teeth look pretty sharp!

Our teeth are very sharp!

We have about three hundred of them.

See . . .? Snap!

Are you fast?

Great white sharks are very fast!

Our tails are long and powerful.

They help us shoot through the water.

Look! There’s another shark.

Good-bye!

Good-bye, Great White Shark!

“A fox is coming to our farm.”

“Oh no,” said Cat.

“We must do something.”

“The fox will see the henhouse,” said Pig.

Smoke rose from her tires.

Her tires made more black marks.

“That was cool!” said Dipper.

“Now it’s my turn!”

Dipper raced across the parking lot.

She slammed on her brakes.

Dipper skidded.

“Good one!” said Poppy.

“Watch me!” Jeb yelled.

He was at the construction site.

He rolled down a dirt hill.

Then he skidded too.

Dog sat on the sled.

 

Down he went!

“Whee!” cried Dog.

 

Dog came back up the hill.

“I’ll go now,” said Pig.

“I’ll go too!” said Cat.

 

Down they went.

“Whee!” cried Cat.

“Whee!” cried Pig.

 

Then the sled tipped!

“Oh no!” cried Cow.

 

Pig and Cat fell off the sled.

They fell into the snow.

 

But Pig got up fast.

So did Cat.

 

They came back up the hill.

Pig gave the sled to Cow.

“It’s your turn now,” said Pig.

 

“No thanks,” said Cow.

Skyler: I don’t care if Chatter is on TV. I like him the way he is.

Theo: I really want Frankie to win. But I’m not a good painter.

Ben: My mom says we can’t all be good at everything.

Riley: Right. Theo is good at making people laugh.

Ben: Miss Keen is good at thinking up fun ideas. 

Skyler: Chatter is good at chatting.

Riley: Here comes Snooks. He’s good at running!

Snooks: Ar-ooo !

Ben: And howling.

Riley: Don’t forget. The Pet Lovers Club meets today!

Kids: We’ll be over soon! Bye!

Mrs. Summers: You’ll never guess what happened!

Riley: What?

Mrs. Summers: I made brownies for the Pet Lovers Club. And I burned them!

I’m just not good at baking

Riley: Don’t worry, Mom. They look okay.

Ben: They taste okay too, Mrs. Summers.

Sarah: Yeah. They are really good!

Mrs. Summers: Thank you. I wish I was a better baker.

Sam and Lucky 1: The Perfect Pet

Sam: Mom, Dad . . . Can I get a pet?

Mom: Well, Sam . . .

Dad: I don’t know.

Sam: Please? I’m six now. I’m old enough!

Mom and Dad: Okay.

Sam: Yeah!

Dad: But remember, Sam—this will be your pet.

You must take care of it.

Sam: I will!

Tia, Max! My parents said yes. I can get a pet!

Tia and Max: Wow!

Max: What kind of pet?

Sam: I can’t decide.

Tia: A goldfish?

Sam: They swim too much, Tia.

Max: A cat?

Sam: They sleep too much, Max.

Grandma Ruby: How about a hamster, Sam?

Sam: No, Grandma Ruby.

They stay inside too much.

Lilly: A ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba?

Sam: You’re just a baby, Lilly.

You don’t know anything about pets.

I want a pet that can run and play outside.

Dad: Come on, Sam.

We’re going to the boardwalk.

Sam: Okay.

Mom: Let’s get some hot chocolate.

Bat and Friends 33: Cat Comes Up

“Wait here,” said Dog.

He ran into the barn.

 

“Don’t worry, Cat!” called Cow.

“We will help!” called Pig.

 

“Meow!” cried Cat.

It was dark in the well.

It was cold in the well.

 

Soon Dog came back.

He had two things.

 

“Look,” said Dog.

“I have a rope.

And I have a pail.”

 

“Oh!” said Cow.

“We can tie the rope . . .”

“To the pail!” said Pig.

 

“Yes!” said Dog.

They held the rope.

Slowly the pail went down.

 

Cat saw the pail.

She jumped into it.

And . . .

 

Up came Cat!

“Yay!” said Pig.

“My wish came true!”

 

“Yes, Pig,” said Dog.

“Your wish came true!”

Bat and Friends 32: In the Well

Pig, Cow, and Dog ran.

They ran fast to the well.

Dog looked down.

He could hear Cat.

But he could not see her.

“Let me look,” said Cow.

She looked into the well.

But it was too dark.

She could not see Cat.

“I know!” said Pig.

“I will make a wish.”

He walked around the well.

“Please, please, pretty please,” said Pig.

“Get Cat out of the well.”

But it did not work.

Cat was still in the well.

“Hold my legs,” said Dog.

“I will go down and get her.”

Pig held one leg.

Cow held the other leg.

“I’m coming, Cat!” said Dog.

Dog went down.

But the well was too deep.
